Herstellung unserer Tischsets
Our placemats are cut and stitched exclusively here in Austria. Each one is made from a single, solid piece of leather—giving it a substantial, high-quality feel.
Leather selection is handled by Paul, an experienced tanner and leather technician, as well as co-founder of Rohleder. His expertise ensures that only the finest hides are used.
Our Leather´s
For our collection, we use only high-quality Italian cowhide. There are many types of leather, so we want to give you a clear picture of what to expect from ours—helping you decide if our leather placemats are the right choice for you.
Our natural leather is uncoated and free from plastics, giving it a warm, authentic appearance and a distinctive feel. Because of this, natural markings like scars or slight irregularities remain visible—part of what makes each piece unique. The colour may also be less uniform than synthetic-coated alternatives.
Over time, the leather develops a rich patina, lending it a vintage charm similar to the leather bags of past generations. Like those heirloom pieces, your placemat will age beautifully, gaining character with use.
We take care to avoid overly flawed areas of the hide and to maintain consistent colouring across each batch. Every piece is crafted with precision to ensure lasting quality and a premium finish.
Are the leather placemats wipeable?
Yes! The waxed surface of our natural leather gives it water-repellent properties. This means the placemats can be easily wiped clean with a damp cloth, and liquids won’t soak into the leather immediately.
Is the leather non-slip?
Our leather placemats are highly slip-resistant. The underside is the natural back of the hide—similar in texture to suede or velour. Thanks to our specific tanning process, the natural fibres offer excellent grip, keeping the placemat securely in place.
Colours & Shapes
Classic colours like black and brown remain favourites when it comes to leather placemats. However, we continually expand our collection with new shades, taking inspiration from current colour trends. To help you match your placemats perfectly to your interior, we offer leather colour samples upon request.
In addition to the traditional rectangular shape, our oval placemats are also very popular. We've also designed a distinctive "Design" variant—while it may not suit every taste, many of our customers appreciate its unique character.
