The Origin Story – Leather Care with No Compromises
The development of our colourless leather balm followed extensive testing of various leather care products. We quickly noticed that many manufacturers rely on inexpensive lanolin. While it’s a natural by-product of wool washing, lanolin doesn’t absorb well into leather and often leaves a sticky finish.
We set out to create a premium alternative—free from these drawbacks, composed entirely of natural ingredients, and capable of delivering deep, long-lasting nourishment. After experimenting with a variety of oils and waxes, the formula for Wagner’s Original was born. The result is a leather care balm that is easy to apply, absorbs quickly, helps waterproof the surface, and enhances the natural beauty of the leather.
Natural Ingredients for Natural Leather Care
The key ingredients in Wagner’s Original are jojoba oil, beeswax, and castor oil. Beeswax is primarily composed of hydrocarbons, fatty acids, and alcohols. Because of its structure, it’s not water-soluble and can only be dissolved in oils or alcohol—making it the perfect natural barrier against moisture and dirt. In fact, beeswax has been used since Roman and Egyptian times to seal pottery, sculptures, and even wooden boats.
In leather care, beeswax not only provides a water-repellent coating, but also slightly darkens the leather, making small scratches virtually invisible. When combined with jojoba and castor oil, it delivers superior conditioning performance—preserving the softness and extending the life of high-quality ROHLEDER leather goods.
How to Achieve the Best Results with Wagner’s Original
Caring for leather with Wagner’s Original is incredibly straightforward. First, gently wipe the leather with a damp cloth to remove any surface dirt. Then apply a small amount of the balm using a soft cotton cloth, a horsehair brush, or even your fingers. Avoid using synthetic brushes, as they tend to be too harsh and may cause scratches.
You only need a small amount of Wagner’s Original to achieve visible results—light scratches will fade, and the leather’s surface will regain its suppleness. Thanks to its high yield and neutral scent, the balm is perfect not only for ROHLEDER products but also for shoes, belts, and other uncoated leather goods.
Important: This product is not suitable for coated leather, which is commonly found in car interiors. If unsure, you can easily test your leather: apply a small amount of balm to a discreet area. If it hasn’t absorbed after five minutes, it’s likely coated. In that case, clean the surface using water and a mild detergent instead.
